The Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the IRGC, announced that the return of Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, to Islamabad “has no connection to nuclear negotiations.”
In a report on Sunday, April 26, Tasnim wrote that during his regional tour of Pakistan, Oman, and Russia, after initially visiting Islamabad and then travelling to Oman, Abbas Araghchi returned to Pakistan for a short visit to continue his recent consultations with the country’s officials. According to the report, in addition to discussions regarding bilateral relations, conveying Iran’s conditions for ending the war to Pakistan, as a mediating country, was cited as one of the most important focuses of the trip.
According to the IRGC-affiliated media outlet, issues such as the implementation of a new legal regime for the Strait of Hormuz, receiving compensation, guarantees against renewed military aggression by “warmongers,” and the lifting of the maritime blockade are among the issues being raised by Araghchi. The report emphasised that these negotiations “have no connection to the nuclear issue.” Araghchi’s return to Islamabad comes as U.S. President Donald Trump cancelled his representatives’ trip to Pakistan on Saturday, stating that if Iran wishes to reach an agreement, it can contact his administration.
Trump also announced that after the cancellation of that trip, Iran had presented a “better proposal” for an agreement, but that in his view, it was “not enough.”
