Trump convenes top advisors to reassess U.S. strategy on Iran as tensions rise and diplomacy stalls.

The media outlet Axios, citing U.S. officials, has reported that Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a meeting on Monday in the White House “Situation Room” with his senior national security and foreign policy advisors to discuss Iran. According to the report, this meeting comes as tensions between the United States and the Islamic Republic have escalated in recent weeks, and diplomatic efforts to manage the crisis have thus far failed to yield results. Sources familiar with the matter told Axios that the purpose of the session is to review the latest developments regarding Iran and to assess the options available to Washington.

Axios writes that “senior military and security officials” will also be present at the meeting, and topics such as “potential U.S. responses,” “the status of conflicts in the Strait of Hormuz,” and “remaining diplomatic pathways” will be examined. The report also mentions a recent proposal by the Islamic Republic to de-escalate tensions, noting that Tehran has relayed a plan to Washington through Pakistani mediation to end the conflicts and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. According to U.S. sources, this proposal includes a phased approach that emphasizes a cessation of hostilities prior to entering into nuclear negotiations.

Citing U.S. security and intelligence officials, Axios claims that the outcomes of this meeting are expected to influence the U.S. administration’s subsequent decisions regarding how to deal with the Islamic Republic.
