A 21-year-old woman, Negar Karimian, was killed on March 9 after the Islamic Republic's police forces opened fire on a civilian vehicle in western Lorestan province.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 am at an intersection in the Aligudarz district.

Karimian, a resident of Isfahan, was returning home with her family from a funeral when their Peugeot 405 was fired upon without warning.

A source close to the family stated that a bullet struck the driver's side door before hitting Karimian, fatally wounding her. Her father also sustained minor injuries in the attack.

"The officer fired at their car from a distance of approximately one meter. The bullet pierced through the car's frame, initially striking the hand of her father before penetrating her stomach and exiting on the other side," a source told IranWire.

"Despite being rushed to the hospital, the severity of her internal organ injuries proved fatal, and she succumbed to her wounds," the source further said.

Although not present during the shooting, the source provided insights into the events leading up to Karimian's death.

"In this mountainous region, especially under the cover of night, there's a significant possibility that a non-native driver, unfamiliar with the area and its procedures, may fail to notice the signal to stop," the source explained.

Karimian was rushed to Imam Sadegh Hospital in Aligudarz but succumbed to her injuries and internal bleeding three hours later.

The severity of the damage to her internal organs rendered organ donation impossible.

Iranian police claimed to have fired upon the vehicle "by mistake." Karimian's funeral was held on March 11 at Bagh Rezvan cemetery in Isfahan.

This incident follows the death of another young woman, 20-year-old Anahita Amirpour, who was shot and killed by Iranian security forces in Lorestan province on January 19.
