Students at Khajeh Nasir Toosi University of Technology staged a sit-in on Tuesday in the mathematics faculty lobby, demanding improved security and living conditions after days of unanswered complaints.
The protest at the Rezaeinejad campus came after several nights of demonstrations that received no response from university officials, according to Amirkabir Newsletter, which covers Iranian university affairs.
Students are demanding the restoration of transportation services, security improvements at women’s dormitories, better quality and pricing of cafeteria food, the resolution of educational and housing problems, and an end to security crackdowns on protesters.
The protest was organized by students without the involvement of official student organizations, the newsletter reported.
Students chanted slogans supporting workers’ rights and criticizing university officials during the sit-in.
Security checks intensified at the campus entrance as the protest began, according to reports.
Students said security forces led by Behrouz Kord checked identification cards, and that plainclothes individuals without identification were present on campus.
Protesters called the presence of unidentified personnel on campus “illegal.”
The sit-in continued peacefully, with students vowing to maintain their protest until their demands are met and security crackdowns end.
