Three Iranian political activists – Reza Mohammad Hosseini, Mahbobeh Rezaei and Samaneh Norouz Moradi – have been sentenced to a total of more than 45 years in prison.
The US-based human rights network HRANA reported on January 8 that the sentences were recently handed down by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeal in Tehran province.
According to the report, Mohammad Hosseini received a sentence of 14 years and six months in prison, along with a fine.
Rezaei was sentenced to 19 years and nine months in prison, plus a fine, while Moradi received a prison term of 11 years.
Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment will be applicable to each defendant.
This means five years of imprisonment for Moradi, and six years and three months of imprisonment for both Mohammad Hosseini and Rezaei.
Moradi, a graduate with a master's degree in theater directing and a constitutionalist activist, was arrested in May last year.
She was transferred to the women's ward of Tehran’s Evin prison, where she remains incarcerated.
Rezaei was arrested in June and transferred to Evin prison. She was accused of "collusion against national security" and "propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran."
Mohammad Hosseini was released in February 2023 and rearrested again in May.
