The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Monday, June 8, that in response to Israel's attack on petrochemical facilities in Iran, it had targeted petrochemical industries in the city of Haifa with a missile strike.
The IRGC statement noted that the attack was carried out in retaliation for the targeting of Iran's petrochemical industries and described attacks on oil and civilian facilities as a "dangerous game," an action that, according to the IRGC, could threaten energy infrastructure across the region.
The IRGC did not name the targeted facilities inside Iran in the statement. However, hours earlier, Islamic Republic officials had reported an attack on the Karoon petrochemical plant in Mahshahr. The Deputy Governor of Khuzestan Province for Security Affairs had stated that a portion of the petrochemical complex was damaged during the attack.
The Revolutionary Guards launched a new wave of missile attacks against Israel on Sunday evening and Monday morning. These strikes were initiated following an Israeli attack on Beirut's southern Dahiyeh, which targeted the bases of Lebanese Hezbollah.
