Dozens of shopkeepers have been summoned to intelligence departments in Mahsa Amini’s home town of Saqqez during a widespread strike in the region on the one-year anniversary of the young woman’s death in police custody.
At least 50 shopkeepers and vendors from the bustling streets of the Western Kurdish city were summoned to the Intelligence Office on Enghebal Boulevard.
Each person underwent approximately 30 minutes of interrogation, during which they were required to provide a written commitment pledging not to participate in the strike.
Information obtained by IranWire suggests a widespread strike is ongoing in Kurdistan, West Azerbaijan and Ilan provinces and shopkeepers have refused to open their businesses.
The number of surveillance cameras monitoring Amini’s grave has also dramatically increased.
The escalated security measures in Kurdish towns are part of efforts by authorities to prevent unrest on the anniversary of Amini’s death, which sparked months of nationwide protests.
