Iranian Authorities Fire Teacher for Alleged Anti-Government Activities

The Islamic Republic's authorities have sacked Salman Mousavi, a teacher and the Secretary of the Education Department in Lorestan province. 

According to a ruling issued by the Ministry of Education's disciplinary board, Mousavi was accused of "propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic, disturbing public order, insulting the leadership, and spreading rumors against the government." 

As a result, he has been fired and barred from re-employment in the education sector, and he will lose all associated salary and benefits.

The verdict, announced by the Education Recruitment Department on April 7, also prohibits Mousavi from entering classrooms.

In recent months, there has been a pattern of retaliation against teachers who participated in protests.

These incidents come amidst a severe teacher shortage in the Iranian education sector.

To address the teacher shortfall, authorities have reportedly brought thousands of religious students from seminaries into schools.

The Coordinating Council Teachers' Union criticized this approach. In a statement on their Telegram channel, they called it a "reactionary" move and a return to an outdated educational system. 

The council argued that replacing experienced teachers with students and clerics lacking expertise "purges schools of specialized teaching staff" and harms children's education.
