As Iran braces for an intense heatwave, several provinces have announced office closures and reduced working hours to manage energy consumption and combat air pollution.

Crisis management officials in multiple provinces issued warnings on Wednesday about the impending temperature surge.

Authorities in Kermanshah, Semnan, Yazd, Isfahan, Lorestan, Qom, Hamadan, Sistan and Baluchistan, and Markazi provinces have implemented various measures to cope with the extreme weather conditions.

In Lorestan, Mehdi Pazuki, the Director General of Crisis Management, announced that executive bodies would operate from 6 AM to 11 AM on Wednesday, with offices completely closed on Thursday.

Similar arrangements have been made in Isfahan, Qom, and Markazi provinces.

Hamedan, Sistan, and Balochistan provinces will see offices closing two hours earlier on Wednesday and Thursday.

Kermanshah province has announced full closures, with plans for early closures in the coming week.

These precautionary measures coincide with the Meteorological Organization's warning of a powerful heatwave set to hit Iran on Thursday.

The organization has described the incoming weather system as a "hell" heatwave, expected to last for three days and primarily affecting the western and southwestern regions.

Recent temperature readings have already exceeded 40 degrees Celsius in various provinces, including Tehran.

The situation is particularly severe in Khuzestan, where the Meteorological Department has issued red-level warnings for two consecutive days, predicting temperatures of 49 to 50 degrees Celsius and above.

Despite the extreme conditions in Khuzestan, the provincial government has only reduced working hours by one hour.

The governorate has announced that offices and institutions in Khuzestan will be closed on Saturday next week due to temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius, with operations shifting to remote work.
