Pezeshkian Has No Contact with Mojtaba Khamenei; Iranian Government May Not Be Able to Pay Employee This Month

Sources say Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has had no contact with Mojtaba Khamenei since his appointment as Supreme Leader, as the government faces growing wartime disarray.
Sources say Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has had no contact with Mojtaba Khamenei since his appointment as Supreme Leader, as the government faces growing wartime disarray.

A senior government source told IranWire that President Masoud Pezeshkian has had no communication with Mojtaba Khamenei since his appointment as Leader of the Islamic Republic and is said to have no clear knowledge of his current situation.

On the eleventh day of the war between the U.S./Israel and Iran, this informed source spoke about Mojtaba Khamenei’s leadership and his communication with Masoud Pezeshkian:

“We have no information regarding Mojtaba Khamenei’s status. The government ministers have no news of him, and as far as I know, Mr. Pezeshkian himself has had no contact with His Eminence Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.”

According to this source, the Pezeshkian administration is currently in a state of “severe disarray” amid the ongoing wartime conditions. However, “the IRGC (Revolutionary Guard) is operating with great coordination.”

This concern is particularly significant because March 20 marks Nowruz, the beginning of the Iranian new year, when government employees traditionally receive year-end bonuses alongside their salaries.

The government insider told IranWire: “The government’s instability is so severe that it is unclear whether employee salaries can be paid by Nowruz (the Iranian New Year). We have a bleak Nowruz ahead of us.”

Since Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed as the third Supreme Leader of Iran on March 8, 2026, no official images, statements, or other communications from him have yet been released publicly.

State-affiliated outlets say Mojtaba Khamenei is expected to issue a message soon, but have not clarified whether it will be released as a video, an audio statement, or a written address.
