Ghalibaf: If the Blockade Continues, the Strait of Hormuz Will Not Remain Open

Following reactions to the news of the Strait of Hormuz reopening, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Parliament and head of the Islamic Republic’s negotiating team in Pakistan, wrote on X: “If the blockade continues, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open.”

This post was in response to statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who indicated that the naval blockade of Iranian ports would remain in place until a peace agreement is reached.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had announced that he would open the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels until the end of the Lebanon ceasefire.

Ghalibaf wrote that transit through the Strait of Hormuz would be conducted based on a “designated route” and with “Iran’s permission,” adding: “The opening or closing of the Strait and the regulations governing it are determined by the field [of operations], not by social networks.”

Criticizing Trump’s remarks, he further wrote: “The U.S. President made seven claims in one hour, all seven of which are false.” Ghalibaf added that “they did not win the war with these lies, and they certainly will not get anywhere in negotiations either.”

Ghalibaf’s comments come in the wake of severe criticism from several government figures and state-aligned media activists regarding Abbas Araghchi’s earlier tweet.
