Amir Ali Mirjafari, a participant in the January protests, was executed early this morning. Mizan News, the media outlet of the Islamic Republic’s judiciary, announced the news, labeling him an "armed element cooperating with the enemy." The report alleged that he "attempted to set fire to the Qolhak Grand Mosque" and was "the leader of anti-security activities for the Mossad network in that area."
According to Mizan, on January 8, Mirjafari and others "threw projectiles at telephone booths and bus windows, and in Mirdamad, they set motorcycles on fire using bottles filled with gasoline."
While the details of Amir Ali Mirjafari’s trial have not been made public, Mizan quoted him as saying that on January 9, "we set fire to trash cans and motorcycles in Dowlat Street and near the Metro station."
Although the judiciary’s news agency accused him of "leading the riots" and "attempting to set fire to the Qolhak Grand Mosque," there is no mention of the Qolhak Mosque in the confessions attributed to him.
Hundreds of people were arrested during the January 2026 protests, and several were sentenced to death. To date, the execution sentences of at least seven of these individuals have been carried out.
