Iran Reduces Power to Major Industries Due to Electricity Shortage

Iran will cut electricity supply to major industries following early summer heat and worsening drought conditions.

The CEO of the national electricity company announced that large industries must reduce power consumption over the next two weeks, as hydroelectric output has dropped to 50 per cent of last year's capacity.

"The imbalance between production and consumption has begun earlier than usual," said Mostafa Rajabi.

He added that the measures are temporary and intended to ensure stable electricity for residential areas, public services, hospitals, and small businesses.

The decision has sparked protests from the industrial sector.

Industry Minister Mohammad Atabak criticized the move, saying it was made without the participation of his ministry and violates a recently signed agreement.

"Once again, the industrial sector has become the first victim of power shortages," Atabak said.

He added that the decision contradicts the Supreme Leader's designation of 2025 as the year of supporting production.

Atabak also claimed that the Energy Ministry breached an agreement that included detailed planning for industrial power cuts.

In response to the crisis, the Ministry of Education announced that schools will now start at 6 AM to help conserve electricity.

Government offices will operate until 1 PM as part of broader energy management measures.
