The wife of imprisoned political activist Mohammad Reza Morad Behroozi has reported that her husband is facing death threats from a violent inmate at Choubindar Prison in Qazvin.
Souri Babaei Chegini, a civil rights activist and former political prisoner, said inmate Mohammad Reza Roudbarian has repeatedly threatened her husband with a knife and physically attacked him this week.
According to Babaei Chegini, Roudbarian, who claims to have served 14 years for murder and assault, has threatened, insulted, and slandered Morad Behroozi in front of prison officials.
Despite the threats, the prison warden has refused to transfer Roudbarian to another ward.
Babaei Chegini added that Manouchehr Bakhtiari, the father of executed protester Pouya Bakhtiari, is also being held in the same ward.
She warned that placing dangerous criminals alongside political prisoners deliberately endangers their lives and violates the principle of separating inmates based on the nature of their crimes.
Babaei Chegini called on Choubindar Prison officials and the director general of Qazvin province prisons to immediately separate the threatening inmate from her husband to prevent an irreversible incident.
Morad Behroozi was arrested last month after authorities cancelled his electronic monitoring and summoned him, subsequently transferring him to Choubindar Prison.
