Social media users and several independent media outlets reported hearing air defense systems firing in various parts of Tehran on Thursday evening and in the early hours of Friday. According to these reports, the sound of anti-aircraft fire was heard in areas including Ekbatan, Marzdaran, Jannat-Abad, and Mehrabad.
Fars News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported that the defensive actions were in response to “the presence of micro-drones and small UAVs in several parts of the country.”
The agency, which is close to the IRGC, did not provide further details, including the origin of the micro-drones and UAVs or any potential damage caused.
Mehr News Agency also said air defenses were “engaging hostile targets.” The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) also confirmed that air defense systems were activated in both eastern and western Tehran.
