The Islamic Republic's authorities have sentenced two political prisoners to death, human rights sources reported.
Behrouz Ehsani Eslamlou and Mehdi Hasani, both held in Evin Prison, were convicted on charges of "rebellion," "waging war against God," and "membership in the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran."
Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, issued the death sentences.
According to the Hengaw human rights organization, the verdicts have been formally sent to their legal representatives.
Mehdi Hasani, 52, from Shahr-e Rey, was arrested on September 9, 2022, in Zanjan while attempting to leave the country. He was subsequently transferred to Evin Prison.
Behrouz Ehsani Eslamlou, 64, was arrested from his home in Tehran on November 28, 2022, and later moved to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.
