Ali Jafarian, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Health, provided new casualty figures following the war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran in an interview with the Al Jazeera network.
In his address, Jafarian noted that the nine-day conflict has claimed over 1,255 lives in Iran, leaving more than 12,000 others wounded. These figures reflect the toll as of Sunday night, March 8.
Ali Jafarian stated that the age range of the war dead spans from an eight-month-old infant to an 88-year-old person.
The Deputy Minister of Health also announced that 200 women are among the dead; within the medical staff, 11 people have been killed and 55 wounded.
With medical staff among the dead and wounded, Iran’s healthcare system is under extreme pressure. Hospitals are caught in a pincer movement, forced to manage a massive influx of war victims on top of the thousands still recovering from the violent crackdowns in January.
