Leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, in an emergency summit held in Saudi Arabia, challenged the Islamic Republic’s actions regarding the Strait of Hormuz and demanded the full reopening of this critical maritime passage.
A statement released following the meeting noted that Tehran’s measures to restrict transit in the Strait of Hormuz have endangered the security of regional maritime transport. Council members also voiced their opposition to the Islamic Republic’s plan to collect fees from passing vessels. The leaders emphasized the necessity of returning maritime traffic to its normal state and ensuring the security of shipping routes.
The summit also explored ways to expand military coordination among members, including strengthening early warning systems and missile defenses. The meeting was chaired by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
