A member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly’s National Security Commission has claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, is “opposed” to extending negotiations with the United States. Ali Khozorian, in an interview with state media, claimed, “Our information indicates that he is strongly opposed to any extension of negotiations under these circumstances.”
He said that the U.S. has “suffered defeat in the war and has deployed all the scenarios it could during the war; it brought all the tools of media and psychological warfare to the field and tried, in the final hours and days of the ceasefire, to force Iran to the negotiating table with a scenario of threats and surrender.” These statements come at a time when, following the death of Ali Khamenei, the former Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, no videos or audio recordings of Mojtaba Khamenei are available, and only written messages attributed to him have been published in Iranian media.
The ceasefire between the U.S. and the Islamic Republic was extended two days ago, when U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had extended it at the request of Pakistani officials to allow Tehran to present its final plan. Donald Trump, President of the United States, has said that the naval blockade of Iran will continue until a meaningful agreement is reached.
